Halton Region helps unemployed and underemployed people in Halton prepare for, obtain and maintain employment. We work in partnership with companies and organizations in our community to obtain information about the latest market trends and employment opportunities.

Youth Employment Programs

Description of Youth Employment Preparation Program (YEPP):
YEPP is a 6-week program that will help you gain the skills to find and keep a job.  YEPP is available throughout the year and is open to all Halton residents between the ages of 15 and 30.  Transportation is provided and participants are PAID to attend.

6 week session includes:

  • Job Search & Interview Skills
  • Marketing Yourself to an Employer
  • Resume and Cover Letter
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Assertiveness Skills
  • Problem Solving & Conflict Resolution
  • Effective Communication

Plus…ongoing support once the program is completed.

Acton, Georgetown, Milton, Oakville, Burlington

Job Placement Programs

Take Advantage of our job placement programs!

First Step

  • A maximum of $10.25/hr for a 1 month job trial
  • A maximum of $1435.00 in subsidy
  • Funding to help offset training costs
  • WSIB coverage for the duration of the placement
  • Pre-screening, matching and referral of candidates
  • Follow up support for the employer and trainee

JobLink

  • Between $4.00 and $5.00/hour for up to 3 months
  • A maximum of $2400.00 in subsidy
  • Funding to help offset training costs
  • WSIB coverage for the duration of the placement
  • Pre-screening, matching and referral of candidates
  • Follow up support for the employer and trainee

Self Employment Programs

If you are interested in starting your own business, Halton Region’s Small Business Centre offers business start up support.

The professional staff at the Small Business Centre can provide practical knowledge and advice on:

  • Market Research
  • Business start-up
  • Marketing
  • Financial planning
  • Export/Import planning
  • Government Programs

The Centre also offers business seminars, publications, a reference and lending library, business planning software on computer stations, and online Business Name Search and Business Registrations.

Rethinking Unemployment (RTUE)

Change is not easy, although it is possible.

Gain control over your life and take the first steps forward.

8 week program includes:

  • in-depth problem solving and conflict resolution
  • career exploration
  • job trial
  • job search assistance

Assistance may be available for child care and transportation.
